Flip Off Your “Anxiety Switch” (Here’s How)

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

If you’re feeling more anxious than you used to, you’re not alone.

In fact, I’m beginning to think that anxiety is our real pandemic right now.

Whether it’s staying up late worrying… feeling more indecisive and stressed… or worse, feeling too nervous to even leave your house, people are feeling more anxious than ever.

And if you’ve experienced it, you know it can be debilitating.

But before you reach for those dangerous prescription sedatives, there’s something you should know…

There’s a safer, BETTER way to treat chronic anxiety.

See, researchers have uncovered a secret anxiety switch in your body… and once you flip it, you’ll be feeling like yourself again in no time!

****

You might not be thinking that your gut is your first stop on your way to fix your constant nervousness, but it is.

Fixing the connection between your brain and your gut by BOOSTING your gut health goes a long way.

You see, your brain and gut talk to each other through hormones, nerve cells, and the immune system, so when your gut is out of balance, your mood is out of balance too.

And the key? Prebiotics… specifically, a type called galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS).

Other research has shown that replacing gut bacteria with a probiotic (which introduces friendly bacteria into the gut) can improve those symptoms.

But prebiotics are even better.

Prebiotics are the food that gut bacteria eat. And in a 2014 study, researchers found that a type of prebiotic supplement called GOS reduced the stress hormone cortisol, and even helped better regulate emotions.

In another study, women who were given prebiotics or a placebo saw a reduction of their anxiety in just 4 weeks!

All thanks to improving their gut health.

And thankfully, it’s as easy as can be to flip the anxiety switch.

Dr. Scott’s Road to Prebiotic Mastery

  • Eat plenty of fresh, raw vegetables to get your fiber. The most probiotic-filled vegetables include greens, Jerusalem artichokes, garlic, onions, leeks, asparagus, and jicama. Other foods contain probiotic fiber, including chicory, konjac root, burdock, and (my favorite) flax seeds.
  • Eat plenty of fermented foods, including sauerkraut, pickles, yogurt, and for the adventurous, miso, natto, and kimchi.
  • Take a good probiotic. I personally like to rotate probiotics to get a wide variety of good bacteria species.
  • Rest. Sleep well and keep stress low. Establish a relaxing bedtime routine that helps you release the stress of the day.
