Giving Thanks and Sharing Traditions
Happy Thanksgiving!
As we celebrate this season of gratitude, I want to take a moment to thank you for being part of our community at Living Well Daily.
I hope your Thanksgiving is filled with warmth, joy, and cherished moments with family and friends.
Holiday meals like today don’t just fill our bellies. They feed our souls and boost our mental health.
So, while I’d never encourage regular overeating, an occasional indulgence enjoyed with loved ones is good for the spirit.
Our meal today will likely look much like yours and millions of other Americans across the United States.
But our day after the big day is likely a bit different than you might expect…
Once all our grown kids started returning home for the holidays, we stumbled into what’s now everyone’s favorite tradition…
Instead of battling post-holiday cooking fatigue, we embrace it. The day after Thanksgiving is officially declared ‘Pajamas, Snacks, and Games Day.’
There’s just something magical about everyone still being in their PJs at 3 PM, grazing on a fun mix of leftover turkey sandwiches and whatever else sounds good, from savory bites to a few sweet treats. (Yes, even yesterday’s pie has been known to make an appearance as a relaxed breakfast option.)
We’ll often start with a quick game like Scrabble over coffee, then work our way up to epic battles of Risk or Monopoly that can last for hours. Someone always brings a new game they’re excited about—last year, it was Catan, which has now earned a spot in our regular lineup.
It’s funny how some of our most cherished family moments now happen—not during the big holiday itself—but in these lazy, unstructured days after. No pressure to dress up, no big meals to coordinate—just us in comfy clothes, playing games, and enjoying time together.
Sometimes, the simplest traditions end up being the ones that stick. What are some of your family holiday traditions?
I’d love to hear them. Feel free to share them HERE on our Facebook page.
