“Gold” Spice Reduces Ulcerative Colitis by 40%!

Recently, a patient of mine, we’ll call her Mary, walked into my office and told me of her eightweek battle with bloody diarrhea.

Many folks are embarrassed to talk about such things, but, having been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis two years ago, she’s gotten used to it.

Her ulcerative colitis had remained in remission – until this recent attack.

She said told me she went to the bathroom 20 times per day and had a significant amount of stomach pain and kept losing weight.

Her medical doctor tried steroids, suppositories, and something called anti-tumor necrosis factor therapy

None of it worked.

Luckily, I had a natural, drug-free solution for her.

Curcumin is an yellow-gold extract of the herb turmeric; it’s received a lot of good press lately (and for good reason!).

Curcumin has immunoregulatory properties (which means it can DROP inflammation) and it also reduces oxidative stress

For the gut, curcumin also promotes mucosal healing and protects the intestinal barrier (two things inflamed guts desperately need).

Curcumin typically has poor bioavailability (meaning it is hard to absorb), but that works just fine for those with ulcerative colitis because it means the medicine stays in their gut.

A recent double-blind, randomized, placebocontrolled study, published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterologylooked at 69 patients with ulcerated colitis

An amazing 40 percent of the patients taking curcumin had remission (no signs of disease) at six weeks!

Whereas no one in the placebo group had any change.

The number of people with remission shot up to fifty-six percent after three months!

Even more amazing, the doctors used colonoscopies to see if there were any changes

They found a 35.3 remission rate at six weeks and 44 percent at three months.

All of this is great news for anyone suffering from ulcerative colitis!

But there is much more you can do to find relief…

Dr. Scott’s Gut Health Program:

  • Probiotics are your easiest path to a healthy digestive system. I prefer a probiotic product that contains a fiber prebiotic along with good bacteria (probiotics).
  • Eat enough fiber to, not only help with regular bowel movements, but to also help stimulate healthy bacterial growth. I always suggest people choose both water-soluble and water-insoluble fiber. One of my favorite fibers is ground flax seeds.
  • Throw away junk food, trans fats, processed, and chemical foods. All processed foods, trans fatty acids, artificial sweeteners, and alcohol harm gut bacteria. Do what you can to limit these non-foods in your diet.
  • Exercise doesn’t seem like the first place you would turn to help your digestive tract, but it has been shown to help encourage a healthy microbiome.
