Is Your Hearing DESTROYING Your Most Vital Organ?
Dear Reader,
I have a question for you.
How often do you catch yourself asking a friend or a loved one: “What did you say?”
Do you find that you ask people to repeat themselves regularly? Maye you have trouble following a conversation in a restaurant or other loud places.
If so, chances are you may have some hearing loss.
Losing your hearing as you age can be very frustrating and can make daily life a challenge.
But hearing loss is MUCH MORE than just a minor inconvenience…
Hearing loss can harm the most important organ in your body.
I’m talking about your brain.
Hearing difficulties in older people are extremely common. It is estimated that 32 percent of people over the age of 55 deal with some form of hearing impairment and 70 percent of people over the age of 70 have hearing loss.
It’s natural to lose a little bit of your hearing as you age. But dramatic hearing loss has a way of disconnecting you from the world. And this can cause major changes in your brain.
In fact, it has been linked to cognitive problems, even dementia in the elderly.
Researchers at the University of Melbourne in Australia recently studied people who had hearing loss.
The research team fitted the hard of hearing participants with hearing aids to see if they would curb mental decline.
After 18 months they found that the hearing aids not only helped the participants hear better, but using the devices also delayed cognitive decline.
What’s more, they even saw improvement in their overall brain function.
An incredible 97.3 percent of the participants either maintained or showed significant improvements their ability to plan, organize, and start tasks. This process is called mental executive functioning.
And as you age, your mental executive functioning tends to fade… but if you have dementia, it dramatically drops.
So, if you find yourself asking “What?” too often, get in and get your hearing checked – it will help you save your mental executive functioning and keep your mind sharp.
