This Heart Advice Could KILL You!
It’s the advice you’ve probably heard a thousand times…
The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends that people at risk of a heart attack or stroke take low-dose aspirin to prevent heart attacks.
But there is a big problem with that advice.
Each year, 15,000 people die, and 100,000 people are hospitalized because of side effects (mostly stomach bleeding) from aspirin.
But before you stop your daily habit (if you take a daily aspirin), think again – stopping may be just as dangerous.
I get why the AHA suggests aspirin: it generated $1.27 billion in sales for the Bayer company last year, and drug companies are big supporters of the association.
But suggesting daily aspirin is increasingly problematic for the AHA, because studies show it doesn’t reduce the risk of heart disease (and the side-effects are horrible – try and name another drug that kills as many people every year).
But a new study shocked me by suggesting that stopping aspirin (once you started) is also dangerous.
Stopping aspirin raises your risk of heart attack and stroke by 37 percent in the year after stopping.
This is what I always say about drugs: they don’t address the underlying issue – you are still sick when you take them. But stopping drugs can be as problematic and starting them.
What happens when you stop aspirin is a “rebound effect” – your body isn’t doing its own work and it takes a while to catch up when you stop.
In the case of aspirin: it helps to thin your blood and lowers inflammation.
When you stop taking aspirin, your blood becomes thicker and your inflammation climbs – and this leads to blocked blood vessels and more heart attacks.
So, when you see a news item that aspirin is good for your heart (or forestalls aging, or stops liver cancer…) don’t believe it.
But also realize that inflammation is at the root of your problem.
Instead of starting aspirin (if you haven’t already), your solution is simple: an anti-inflammatory diet and herbs (like curcumin) and essential fatty acids (like fish oil).
