Let It Go—The Unexpected Freedom of “Fart Walks”
Ever notice your walk sometimes comes with some, well… unexpected sound effects?
One step, two step, POOT!
There’s a perfectly reasonable explanation for this natural phenomenon.
Passing gas on your daily stroll is totally normal—and it means your digestive system is working well.
Here’s what’s happening…
Walking and other physical activities stimulate your digestive tract, encouraging the natural movement of food through your intestines.
This increased activity helps your body process nutrients more effectively, but it also releases trapped gas.
The science behind it is straightforward.
Your body naturally produces gas as it breaks down food in the large intestine. And when you get moving, those muscle contractions also push trapped gas toward the exit.
In fact, some folks intentionally take what’s informally known as a “fart walk” to relieve bloating and discomfort from trapped gas.
I encourage you to start stepping out for a stroll after meals yourself. Even a short 10 to 15-minute walk after eating can significantly boost digestion by:
- Stimulating the muscles in your digestive tract
- Helping food move more efficiently through your system
- Reducing bloating by encouraging the release of trapped gas
- Easing discomfort from feeling overly full
While a fart might be embarrassing if you’re walking with others, remember that this process is simply your body working as designed. Nearly any physical activity can have this gas-releasing effect, from yoga to swimming.
So, the next time you’re out for a walk and feel the need to pass gas, take comfort in knowing it’s actually a sign of a healthy, active digestive system doing exactly what it should.
Rather than being embarrassed, you should view these moments as your body’s way of telling you your digestive health is on the right track.
P.S. In this LWD classic I reveal seven spices that banish gas and bloating naturally.
