Mailbag: Diabetes Busting Solutions that WORK
“How do you eliminate diabetes and can supplements help?”
– Seeking Solutions
*****
Dear Seeking,
Let’s first be sure we’re talking about the same thing: type 2 diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the body can no longer produce insulin. It can be a challenging condition to manage.
But if you have type 2 diabetes, I have FANTASTIC news. Type 2 diabetes is the most curable condition in the world.
And the best place to start is also the simplest. Studies show that losing weight, exercising, and eating better all make a huge impact.
I always advise my patients with diabetes that if they’re looking to eat better to manage their blood sugar, they should choose low-glycemic foods.
These foods don’t cause sudden blood-sugar spikes, which gives your body a chance to process glucose more easily.
Think colorful veggies and proteins. By filling your plate with these low-glycemic superstars, you’re not just eating. You’re actively managing your blood sugar and giving your body the steady energy it craves.
And yes, certain supplements really help.
Here’s a quick rundown of some natural supplements that I often recommend to my diabetic patients that can help keep blood sugar in check:
- Cinnamon: This tasty spice could lower fasting blood sugar.
- Berberine: A compound found in some plants that could help regulate blood sugar.
- Alpha-lipoic acid: An antioxidant that breaks down carbs to make energy.
- Chromium: A mineral that helps insulin do its job better.
- Magnesium: Another mineral that’s crucial for blood sugar control.
- Gymnema Sylvestre: An herb that may fight insulin resistance.
- Fenugreek: Seeds that can slow down sugar absorption.
Remember, though, supplements are just a part of the puzzle. The actual heavy lifting comes from straightforward lifestyle changes.
Eating better, moving more, and shedding some pounds if needed are the BEST weapons against type 2 diabetes.
P.S. Olive extract boosts weight loss and blood sugar control.
