How can I, without medication, stop cognitive impairment?

I’ve got fantastic news. There’s a TON you can do to stop your brain from sliding down the path to dementia.

And tackling cognitive impairment without drugs is totally doable. Let’s explore some lifestyle tweaks and supplement hacks that can give your brain a serious boost.

Whenever I’m asked about brain health, I like to share my simple “7 and 7” brain boosting plan.

I advise my patients to first focus on seven lifestyle tweaks:

  1. Exercise regularly: Movement is like a magic pill for your brain.
  2. Get quality sleep: Your brain needs its beauty rest.
  3. Stay socially active: Chatting with friends is great brain exercise.
  4. Learn new skills: Regularly challenge your brain with new hobbies.
  5. Manage stress: Meditation or yoga can work wonders.
  6. Eat a brain-healthy diet: Try the brain-healthy Mediterranean diet.
  7. Limit alcohol: Alcohol is toxic to brain cells.

As simple as they sound these lifestyle changes are far more powerful than you might imagine.

But trying to tackle them all at once, can feel overwhelming. Instead, choose one or two to focus on to start and only add in another when you’ve mastered the first few.

Next, you can try some brain-supporting nutrients. Following are the seven supplements I typically recommend to my patients:

  1. Omega-3 fatty acids: This potent fat is the perfect food for your brain cells
  2. B vitamins: B12, folate, and B6 are vital for brain health.
  3. Vitamin D: D deficiency is common and it’s crucial for brain health.
  4. Curcumin: This powerful anti-inflammatory compound is found in turmeric.
  5. Ginkgo biloba: This herb boosts circulation to the brain.
  6. Bacopa: This Ayurvedic herb supports memory.
