Mailbag: Top 3 Supplements You Should Take

So many vitamins I feel I have to take. Is there one that covers it all? Or a top three?

Hi Jon,

I typically suggest a multivitamin when anyone tells me they want to take only one supplement.

The reason why is simple. One of the most vital things supplements can do for us is make up for nutritional shortcomings in our diets.

We all INTEND to eat healthy, of course. And we DO try our best. But despite those good intentions, it’s easy to fall short from time to time.

When that happens, a multivitamin can cover your bases, filling in the gaps when you don’t get all the nutrients your body needs to function at its best.

If folks want to add a second supplement to the mix I’d choose fish oil rich in omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA.

Like vitamins, your body requires these essential fats to function at the top of its game.

In fact, I have a filing cabinet FILLED with fish oil studies proving that essential fatty acids support overall well-being, including heart, brain, skin, and metabolic health.

But you need to get these healthy fats from your FOOD as your body doesn’t make its own supply. And the typical Western diet is often low in omega-3s.

So, once again, a supplement is the best way to fill in the gap.

Finally, if folks want to add a third supplement to their routine, choose something that addresses your specific health condition or weakness.

For example, if you have an illness such as diabetes, heart disease, or mild cognitive decline… or a family history of a disease…. you can choose a supplement that helps with that specific issue.
