Morning Staple Skyrockets Blood Sugar 50%

Dear Reader,

Diabetes. If you have this condition, chances are your life often feels like endless jabs and pricks.

Your blood sugar seems like it’s on a roller coaster ride that you can’t ever get off of.

Maybe you struggle with all the numbers – your sugars and the number on the scale.

Your mainstream doctor will give you this strict diet regimen and have you ditching anything remotely indulgent or tasty.

But I bet this regimen doesn’t talk about this morning staple. It’s one that can actually help you or HARM you when it comes to your blood sugar.

In fact, if you don’t do it properly it could send your blood sugar skyrocketing upwards as much as 50%…

Raise your hand if one of the first sounds that can be heard in your house in the morning is the coffeemaker.

If this is you, you’re not alone. About 70% of people in the United States start their morning with a cup of Joe.

But there’s reason to pause before taking that first sip. Research suggests you should wait until after breakfast to have your first coffee

Why?

Because that morning coffee — without eating first – has a negative effect on your blood sugar.

new study, in the British Journal of Nutrition, found that drinking coffee first has a negative impact on metabolism (and especially on blood sugar control) WHEN you start to eat your breakfast.

The research team in this study gave people coffee and then watched what happened to their blood sugar when they ate their breakfast later.

They found that the black coffee substantially increased blood sugar compared to people who didn’t have coffee before their meal. When people were sleep deprived, the coffee-before-eating skyrocketed blood sugar by about 50 percent.

(This doesn’t mean you have to ditch your cup of Joe altogether. In fact, coffee has some pretty amazing health benefits. Find out more about how coffee can actually help destroy this kind of cancer, here.)

The researchers aren’t sure why coffee first (especially after bed night sleep) can really hurt blood sugar control.

So what’s the takeaway?

Avoid coffee before a meal in the morning if you are eating a standard breakfast. A good way to sidestep the bad effects of this study is to eat a breakfast (especially a breakfast with no sugar or foods that act like sugar!)

If you eat a low-carb breakfast (like I always suggest), coffee will not raise your blood sugar.

P.S. If you’re a coffee lover, don’t let this article get you down. As long as you drink it at the right time, coffee offers some great health benefits. In fact, it can help destroy a certain kind of cancer. Click here to read about its cancer-kicking effects.
