“Nutrient Knight” SHIELDS You from Processed Food Damage?
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
It’s ok to admit it…
You probably don’t always eat what you should.
We all indulge in processed foods now and then… especially when we’re away from home or out with friends.
Before you realize it, you’re sitting down and ordering whatever you want.
No one is perfect all the time!
But the next time you step out on to the fast food restaurant battlefield, you might want to protect yourself.
And now, researchers may have found just that.
According to a new study, this “nutrient knight” could SHIELD you from processed food damage.
Best of all, it’s affordable AND easy to find.
The journal Brain, Behavior, and Immunity published a startling study that shows that omega-3 fatty acids could “shield” your body from the effects of processed foods.
Previous research shows that eating high levels of refined foods can lead to learning and memory problems. Scientists have discovered that measuring “neuroinflammatory markers” in the blood can reveal the damage caused by that fried chicken sandwich and French fries… and it usually points to inflammation in the brain.
In this new study, however, researchers at Ohio State University gave two groups of rats – one young, one old – a highly processed diet.
They noticed that the older rats suffered from memory problems, and much higher levels of inflammation. Yet when the researchers gave the older rats omega-3 fatty acids, the damage seemed to disappear.
It’s important to note that while omega-3s won’t provide you with complete protection, they will help some.
To get more omega-3 fatty acids in your diet, load up on salmon, eggs, pecans, walnuts, and grass-fed beef.
And if you’d prefer to supplement, try fish oil. Look for a supplement that contains at least 250 to 500mg combined EPA and DHA.
P.S. Omega-3 fatty acids aren’t just great for your overall health… they can also help treat this heart disease as well. Find out more right here.
