Popular Drink SKYROCKETS Stroke Risk!
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
You’ve heard the phrase you are what you eat… but did you know you are what you drink as well?
It turns out that preventing a stroke or heart attack isn’t just about skipping the French fries and sundaes. It’s important what you fill your glass with as well.
Researchers have found that this one popular beverage can SKYROCKET your stroke risk… and it could raise your triglycerides, cholesterol, and more.
And believe it or not, it’s not alcohol!
*****
I’m talking about kicking the soda habit.
Researchers from Tufts University in Massachusetts studied the soda consumption of almost 6,000 adults for 12 years.
At the end, they found that drinking just one sugary drink a day in middle age dramatically increased the risk of heart attack or stroke.
And daily drinkers were twice as likely to have low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) or “good” cholesterol levels.
Drinking more than 12 ounces (one can) of sugar beverages per day means you are 53 percent more likely to have high triglycerides and 98 percent more likely to have low HDL (you want your HDLs to be high).
High triglycerides and low HDL numbers are a telltale sign of dyslipidemia. This condition increases your risk of blood clots that cut off blood supply to the heart or brain… causing heart attack and stroke.
In a shocking statement, the researchers said, “our findings contribute to the mounting evidence that sugary drinks should be avoided to help maintain long-term health.”
I never thought I’d hear that from mainstream medicine!
The researchers aren’t alone. Numerous studies tie our sugar addiction to poor health.
Even the American Heart Association now recommends people eliminate sugary drinks!
So ditch the soda. Instead, opt for unsweetened iced tea or a glass of cold, refreshing water.
And if you’re looking for a caffeine boost, stick with coffee. This beverage is chock full of health benefits and will still give you the energy you’re looking for.
