REAL Drug-Free Back Pain Relief
Recently, I’ve had several exasperated people ask me, “Is back pain something I just have to live with?”
I battled chronic back pain for years, so I completely understand why some folks feel so hopeless about finding relief.
In fact, I used to think I was doomed to a life of pain and limitations, too. But through a lot of trial and error, I pieced together a collection of effective at-home solutions that have TRANSFORMED my life.
They could also do the same for you if you’re battling back pain.
Now, I’m not going to tell you that I never have any pain. I still do have occasional flare-ups.
But the difference is that they seldom occur, and they’re far more manageable when they do. So, I no longer feel like a prisoner to my back pain.
Back pain doesn’t have to control your life. There are at-home therapies that can head off flare-ups and help you recover from them faster.
Following are the ones I’ve found to be the most effective. You can mix and match them to create a customized back pain management plan that works best for YOU…
- One of the easiest things you can do is apply ice and heat to the painful area. Typically, it’s best to start with ice to reduce inflammation. Then switching to heat helps relax tight muscles. Keep a cold pack in the freezer to use whenever it’s needed. (In a pinch, a bag of frozen veggies also works well.) And a heating pad, hot water bottle, or microwavable wheat will provide the perfect amount of heat. Continue to alternate between hot and cold for the best results.
- Commit to a regular exercise routine. It will help strengthen your back and core muscles to better support your spine. Low-impact activities like walking, swimming, or yoga are ideal. Even simple daily stretches will help keep your muscles loose to avoid future flairs. Work on improving posture and focus on gentle exercises that target your abs and lower back.
- If you sit for long periods, experiment with ergonomic devices to help relieve pressure on your back. Lumbar support cushions, back braces, and orthopedic seat cushions can be helpful. Also, if you spend time at a desk, adjust your workstation to avoid hunching over.
- While over-the-counter medications temporarily block pain signals, they can come with a slew of troubling side effects. Natural supplements that effectively and safely reduce inflammation, including turmeric, ginger, Boswellia, and omega-3 fatty acids.
- Get a muscle-relaxing massage for short-term relief. (Be sure to let your therapist know you’re experiencing some discomfort.) If you can’t splurge on regular massages, consider purchasing a massage cushion or handheld massager you can use at home.
The key is to find a few go-to pain management strategies that work well for your lifestyle and pain level. It takes some trial and error, but most people find a combination that offers real relief.
