Slash Your Parkinson’s Risk in HALF? Here’s How…

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

Parkinson’s is a disease that NOBODY wants… it takes just about everything from you.

We all watched what it did to celebrities like Michael J. Fox and Muhammad Ali.

It overwhelmed them with uncontrolled movements… it made it difficult to talk… and it even took away their independence.

If someone you love has Parkinson’s, you’ve witnessed these horrors firsthand.

But, believe it or not, Parkinson’s is not just some disease that strikes out of the blue.

There’s plenty you can do to slash your risk of ever developing this terrible condition.

And the sooner you start, the better.

New studies are discovering what is happening in the brains of Parkinson’s patients – and giving us more knowledge on how to prevent it.

Dr. Dimitri Krainc, the chair of neurology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, has found that Parkinson’s disease is caused by the death of brain cells (neurons).

Specifically, Parkinson’s causes the death of dopamine-containing neurons in a region of the brain called the substantia nigra – the area of the brain responsible for muscle control.

It starts with the neurotransmitter called dopamine becoming oxidized and accumulating in the nerve cells along with a protein called alpha-synuclein.

This starts a cycle that triggers the death of the neurons and the symptoms you see in Parkinson’s patients.

Losing dopamine neurons is natural as we grow older – everybody loses some. The problem is that people with Parkinson’s lose many more.

Thanks to Dr. Krainc and his team, we now know that this toxic cascade begins with oxidation and the best way to fight oxidation is with antioxidants.

Based on the research, and other things we know about keeping your brain healthy, this is what I’d recommend for preventing Parkinson’s.

Dr. Scott’s Brain Protection Plan:

  • Creatine is an amino acid that is good for the brain and helps support energy production.
  • Omega 3 fish oil is an essential fatty acid your brain needs to support its function and protect against oxidation.
  • CoQ10 is powerful antioxidant and helps to provide energy throughout the body.
  • Antioxidants can be vitamins such as Vitamin A and Vitamin C, but I especially like the phytonutrients (polyphenols, carotenes…) found in superfood supplement combinations. Just go to www.iherb.com and search “superfood” and you’ll find plenty of options.
  • Herbs such as curcumin and bacopa work to decrease inflammation and act as powerful antioxidants.

Health and Happiness,
