Strengthen Your Heart Without Lifting a Finger
How would you like to get all the benefits of exercising without having to lift a finger?
What if I told you that you could make your heart stronger, move blood throughout your body, lower your blood pressure – all while helping you sleep, giving your immune system a boost and throw in a detox to boot… all why laying down in a room for 30 minutes a few times a week?
I’m talking about using a sauna.
After years of using the health club sauna, I recently built one in my backyard.
The reason?
Because hopping in a sauna a few times a week has great benefits for your heart and health.
Most of my neighbors think I’m crazy for building a sauna, but there are parts of the world (like Scandinavia) where almost everyone uses saunas on a weekly basis.
Sweating in the sauna is one of the best things you can do for your heart and longevity.
Multiple research studies over the years have shown saunas help support good heart health, but we have never known why.
A recent study, published in the journal Complementary Therapies in Medicine, found that hopping in a sauna for a short amount of time is comparable to a brief moderate-intensity workout.
When you sauna, your blood vessels dilate and this lowers blood pressure. At the same time your heart rate increases, which moves more blood around your body and helps to remove wastes and toxins.
The researchers called using a sauna “a mild to moderate stress” – very similar to exercise.
The study team found that short sauna sessions help to maintain low blood pressure long after you leave the sauna room.
Now, I know a lot of gyms and health clubs are closed right now… but that won’t last forever.
If you are considering using a sauna, make sure you hydrate and don’t stay in too long. As always, check with your doctor before putting any stress on your heart.
