There are foods that increase diabetes (like sugar and vegetable oils) and foods that can STOP it.   

A 2017 study published in PLOS One investigated the effects of okra on rats with diabetes. A substance called myricetin is found in okra and some other foods, including red wine and tea. 

Scientists gave rats myricetin and found that it increased the absorption of sugar into rat’s muscles (which LOWERED overall blood sugar).  

Another study from 2011 found that an okra solution actually blocks the absorption of sugar in the intestines 

If you like okra, this is more reason to add it more regularly into your diet.  

But there is so much more you can do to prevent or manage diabetes.

  • Eat well: This means avoiding processed foods, eating good proteins, and as many veggies as you can. Staying away from sugar, grains, and starchy vegetables also helps. If you are going to eat sugar, then do it near a meal (this slows down the absorption of sugar).  
  • Exercise: Don’t feel that you have to run a marathon to be in shape, but walking, golfing, or a game of tennis can all help your body deal with sugar more effectively.  
  • Inflammation: Buy some cheap health insurance by taking supplements that keep your inflammation low: I like fish oil, curcumin, and Boswellia.  
  • Berberine: This herbal extract is great for the brain and helps to control blood sugar.  
  • Chromium: This mineral is also well-known to help control blood sugar.
