The DISTURBING Truth About Diet Soda
If you drink DIET soda because you’re convinced it’s healthier, I have bad news.
The case against your diet soft drink habit is now STRONGER than ever.
And the reason WHY will blow you away.
Big Food has spent BILLIONS convincing folks who want to be healthier that, when they choose foods and drinks with artificial sweeteners, they’re protecting their health by promoting weight loss, reducing heart risks, and avoiding weight gain.
The trouble is those are empty claims with nothing to back them up. In fact, there’s a TON of research that’s found precisely the opposite to be true.
Decades ago, researchers began to wonder if fake sugars (like those used in diet soda) really do help us lose weight (or at least keep us from GAINING).
Study after study found that swapping regular soda for diet does NOTHING to help folks lose weight. And it doesn’t reduce the risk of obesity, fatty liver disease, or heart disease.
However, scientists haven’t been sure WHY until now.
A study published in the journal Food Research International found that regardless of whether someone drinks a sugar-filled drink or a diet soda laced with fake sugar, their INSULIN levels increased the same.
Insulin is a hormone that helps regulate sugar in our bodies, but it does more than that. It helps direct where the energy we eat goes. If you have HIGH insulin levels, your body stores calories as FAT.
When we taste something we perceive as sweet, our body EXPECTS it to contain sugar and naturally starts pumping out hormones such as insulin. It happens even when the sweetness is produced artificially.
In other words, your BODY doesn’t know the difference!
The scientists call this diet soda effect “metabolic confusion.” And it’s why consuming chemical sweeteners makes no difference to your overall health.
Of course, your best bet is to SKIP the soda altogether. But, as I’ve told my own patients for years, IF you’re still going to indulge, you may as well go ahead and make it one with real sugar.
Because, despite my firm belief that sugar is one of the worst things you can put in your mouth (I even wrote a book about it), diet soda has ZERO benefits.
But the risks from the chemical sweeteners make a bad thing EVEN worse.
