The REAL #1 Supplement for Osteoporosis
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
We’ve all heard the ad “milk does a body good.”
Over and over the mainstream preaches that milk—specifically, calcium—is the only way to build strong bones and prevent osteoporosis.
Well here’s the truth…
Calcium is one of the best-selling supplements, yet Americans still have some of the WEAKEST bones.
And now, we finally know why.
New research has revealed that the REAL number one supplement for osteoporosis ISN’T what we’ve been taught all these years.
It turns out that keeping healthy bones boils down to just one thing: vitamin K.
One of the lesser-known vitamins, vitamin K promotes healthy blood clotting and blood vessel function.
But apparently that’s not all it can do.
A recent review published in the journal Nutrients found that vitamin K is essential for hormones such as osteocalcin, which helps move calcium from your digestive tract into your bones.
The researchers also found that vitamin K helps prevent fractures.
One study found that Asian men and women as well as Northern European men and women both have a higher rate of fractures than other populations. The common denominator? Vitamin K deficiency.
Overall researchers suggest more trials need to be done to determine how supplementing with vitamin K can benefit bones.
But personally, I wouldn’t wait: vitamin K is already one most people don’t get enough of.
And not only is vitamin K great for your bones, other studies show it can help with:
- Diabetes
- Dementia
- Cancer
- Heart disease
Good food sources of vitamin K include green leafy vegetables, fish, liver, meat, and eggs.
I generally suggest taking 90 mcg of vitamin K a day along with a balanced diet. If you don’t get enough, then make sure you supplement.
P.S. Did you know that the side effect of many common medications is weaker bones? Find out if yours is on this list.
