The Truth About COPD Smokers and Non-Smokers EXPOSED

Dear Reader,

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD is known to be caused by smoking.

But there is a sizeable group of people with who have never smoked…and yet they still have COPD.

In fact, it’s estimated that up to 39 percent of people with COPD have actually never smoked in their lifetime

The question is, do non-smokers with COPD have different risks than those COPD smokers? For a long time, this was thought to be the case.

But is it true?

The short answer is, no.

People with non-smoking COPD and those smokers with COPD share some of the same risks.

A recent study, published in the medical journal Thorax, found that people who have never smoked and have COPD have the exact same risk of lung cancer as smokers.

The researchers looked at the health records of 338,548 people with COPD and tracked their health for an average of seven years.

The researchers found that people with non-smoking COPD were 2.5 times more likely to develop lung cancer as those without COPD.

Which is exactly the same risk as if you were a smoker.

While it’s hard to trace the root of non-smoking COPD, in my experience you can often find chemical exposure as the root of the cause.

Sometimes people with non-smoking COPD have worked in a factory, but more often they are the construction worker who worked around glues and solvents all the time.

Or they’re the hotel cleaning lady who has to use powerful cleaners, the farmer spraying his crops, or even the stay-at-home mom who needs a spotless home and overdoes it with cleaning solutions.

When you realize that chemical exposure can destroy your lungs, it makes sense that the risk of cancer is the same in both groups.

COPD is incredibly difficult to treat, but can be managed well with omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants such as turmeric, ginseng, and vitamins A, E, and C.

It is also important to stay active, manage stress, and do breathing exercises.
