This Condition DOUBLES COVID Risk?!

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

Just when cases of COVID-19 have started to drop, they’ve begun surging again.

It’s not unusual for places – take India for example – that were once doing great to now see surges in the number of new cases.

While we’re all getting overly fatigued by the inconvenience and isolation of COVID, we need to be wary of feeling too relaxed (even if you get vaccinated).

The sad truth is some of us are at a much higher risk than others.

In fact, researchers have just discovered that this medical condition was shown to DOUBLE the risk of getting COVID-19…

And 1 in 9 American seniors have it.

A recent study published in the journal Alzheimer’s & Dementia found that folks with dementia were at the most risk of COVID-19.

The researchers gathered one of the largest amounts of records yet from over 61 million patients.

In part, the higher risk was in people with dementia because cognitive decline and COVID-19 share some of the same risks: heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure.

But the study found that people with dementia –  even without all those other risk factors – were STILL at higher risk.

In fact, having dementia DOUBLED the patients’ risk of getting COVID-19. And within the dementia group, African-Americans were three times as likely to get COVID-19.

Having dementia puts someone at risk because they’re usually housed in a communal situation (like a nursing home) where they have more contact with other patients and the general public than most elderly.

Furthermore, the researchers found that the brain damage from dementia could allow viruses to enter the brain easier and increase inflammation and blood clots.

The patients who had dementia and also contracted COVID-19 had an almost 21 percent higher chance of dying than those folks who didn’t have dementia. They also had a 59 percent higher chance of being hospitalized with COVID-19.

It’s a hard lesson, but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel: you can prevent this from happening to you.

As always, your best way to fight the virus is to make sure your immune system is strong, work to keep your heart healthy and maintain a good weight.

P.S. In case you missed it: there’s a new COVID-19 test that could change EVERYTHING… and the FDA just approved it. Click here to find out more.
