This Delicious Drink DODGES Depression

When you look around at your neighbors and friends, it seems like they’re living happy, fulfilled lives. So, it might surprise you to learn that might not always be true.

Depression and anxiety are some of the most common causes of disability in the world. In fact, nearly 40 percent, or 4 in 10, adults have experienced symptoms.

And those big smiles often hide the pain countless folks feel living in the modern world. It’s SO common that many people have become masters at hiding it.

But, recent research has revealed a surprisingly delicious tool for dialing down your risk of ever battling anxiety or depression again.

It turns out that reaching for a mug of coffee could do a lot more than provide you with a quick energy hit. New research reveals it could build a barrier against depression and anxiety, too.

A study published in the journal Psychiatry Research found that daily coffee drinkers have a significantly lower risk for depression and anxiety than their java-avoiding peers.

The study focused on 152,821 people who had responded to online mental health questionnaires as part of a program in the United Kingdom.

The researchers compared instant, ground, and decaffeinated coffees with and without milk and sugar.

And regardless of HOW folks drank it, coffee was linked to LESS depression and anxiety.

But how much people drank DID make a difference.

The sweet spot for getting the mental health benefits was 2 to 3 cups daily. When folks drank more or less, the payoffs faded. (And unsurprisingly, in the case of anxiety specifically, it INCREASED when people drank a lot of coffee.)

More research is needed to nail down precisely how coffee cuts those risks.

But there’s a good chance that the brain-boosting compounds in your favorite cup of Joe can function as natural antidepressants that regulate brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) and hormones linked to mental health.

Researchers point to coffee’s caffeine and high antioxidant levels as potential sources of its depression-fighting powers.
