The SHOCKING Truth About Aspirin and Your Brain
Dear Reader,
One of the biggest mainstream medical myths is the belief that using aspirin can improve your health.
And I’m willing to bet, if you are anywhere over the age of 40, your doctor has probably suggested taking a low-dose aspirin for your heart and your brain.
Now, we’ve talked about aspirin not helping your heart many times (if you’ve been following me for a while)…
But what about your brain?
The answer (no surprise) is aspirin is NOT helpful when it comes to avoiding dementia.
In a new comprehensive study, published in the journal Neurology, sponsored by the American Academy of Neurology, researchers investigated aspirin use in 19,114 people.
Half were given a low dose aspirin, and the other half was given a placebo. The researchers followed them for almost five years.
The participants were given thinking and memory tests at the start of the study and during follow-up visits.
After five years, researchers found no difference between the people taking aspirin and those who didn’t in thinking tests. What’s more they found NO difference in the development of dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
On the surface it makes lots of sense to try to calm inflammation.
Inflammation, after all, is a major problem for your health – especially your long-term health. And inflammation plays a major role in the development of dementia.
Now, aspirin does drop inflammation and thins the blood. BUT aspirin has major side effects.
Recent studies have shown that the risk of dying from taking aspirin is about the same as the risk of dying in a car accident (almost 40,000 people die every year in cars!) and aspirin causes 38.5% of hospital admissions for drug overdose.
That is a lot of pain and suffering from a small pill that is supposed to help you.
If you are looking to stave off dementia, your better bet is to eat a low-carb diet – high blood sugar leads to inflammation and destruction of your brain.
Take brain healthy nutrients including omega-3 fatty acids, CoQ10, B-vitamins and others are also effective.
Last but not least, make sure you get enough sleep at night and make exercise part of your daily life.
