Waking Up at Night? Try THIS Fix

When my wife and I wish each other a goodnight, we always say, “I hope you sleep like a teenager.”

It’s a joke, of course. But it’s rooted in our REAL-LIFE experiences.

You see, I often claim my last good night of sleep was the day before my son was born. (He’s 30 now.)

My wife struggles with going to sleep. But for me, waking up in the middle of the night is the problem.

If you’re like me and find yourself wide awake in the middle of the night, I’ve got some hard-earned, effective tips to share with you.

The truth is, waking up in the dead of night may not be that unusual. It’s just fallen out of fashion, so to speak.

Looking back at old diaries and other writings, people often refer to “first sleep” and “second sleep.”

It turns out that two hundred years ago, waking up in the middle of the night WAS considered normal. During that window of wakefulness, people would read, pray, or have romantic encounters.

If you find you’re unable to break the habit of waking up in the night, you can use the time to do the same.

However, there ARE three common causes of sleep problems that you can easily correct…

  • You might wake up in the middle of the night because of an overactive brain. Strangely, staying calm during the DAY is the best way to combat an overactive brain at NIGHT. This means avoiding things that make you nervous or angry whenever it’s reasonable to do so. And taking breathing, meditation, or prayer breaks whenever you need to decompress.
  • Some people find drinking too much coffee makes them jittery during the day and causes them to wake up at night. Cut back on the caffeine, drink half-caf or decaffeinated coffee or herbal tea later in the day, and you may find yourself sleeping through the night.
  • Alcohol could be behind your sleep troubles. Many folks like to have a nightcap before bed. And it IS a fantastic way to fall asleep. But most people don’t realize alcohol can ALSO cause you to wake up later in the night. Try going cold turkey for a few weeks to see if it helps.

Address these three simple slumber hurdles, and before you know it, you could find yourself sleeping like a teenager too.

P.S. Research reveals there’s ANOTHER overlooked cause of insomnia. A recent study revealed simple nutritional deficiencies could be behind your sleeplessness. CLICK HERE for the details.
