Big Pharma FAILS Their Own COVID Test?!
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
There is no better marketing team on earth than the guys that work for Big Pharma.
And one of the best things that could ever happen for them is off-label prescribing.
This is a type of treatment where doctors will prescribe a drug that’s normally used for one condition to treat another. For example, some doctors might prescribe gabapentin to treat anxiety, when it’s normally prescribed for seizures and chronic pain.
In recent years, off-label prescribing has skyrocketed. In fact, some studies show that around 20-40 percent of all prescriptions are “off label” use.
And the desperate need for COVID-19 treatments from any source has made it even MORE popular.
But now, researchers have uncovered a BIG problem with this practice.
Despite their claims, Big Pharma has failed their own form of a COVID-19 test by claiming that this drug can treat COVID infections… when the science says otherwise.
Not a week goes by where I don’t see a new article claiming statin drugs are the cure for some disease.
Statins – like rosuvastatin (Crestor), atorvastatin (Lipitor), and simvastatin (Zocor), to name a few – are designed to reduce cholesterol. But when reducing cholesterol was discovered to be nearly worthless at lowering the death rates from heart attack, the marketing team jumped into action.
In recent years, statin drugs have been pushed as treatment for everything from multiple sclerosis and inflammatory bowel diseases to rheumatoid arthritis, and Alzheimer’s disease. And now, the marketing teams are jumping on the COVID-19 treatment bandwagon.
But researchers at Johns Hopkins Medical Center, publishing their work in the journal PLoS ONE, decided to put this to the test.
In their study, they looked at the treatment of 4,500 patients who’d been admitted to the hospital for COVID-19 infections.
Not only were statins NOT effective at reducing death from COVID-19… they also INCREASED the chances of suffering severe COVID-19 symptoms by 18 percent.
The researchers concluded that this was because statins increase the production of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), which essentially act as transporters for the virus.
For me, it’s just MORE proof that statins are a dangerous drug that should be avoided as much as possible.
Statin drugs were on my list of “never-takes” long before this study – they simply cause too many health problems, like muscle pain, poor sleep, and they can even reduce beneficial CoQ10 nutrient levels in your body.
If you’re currently taking a statin drug, work with your health care provider to help you get off of them. And certainly, don’t take them for COVID-19.
