Hearing Loss: Your Brain’s SOS?

What did you say?

If you ask that question more than a few times a day, chances are you probably have hearing loss.

Hearing loss has a way of sneaking up without you noticing.

And having hearing issues isn’t just frustrating… it can be downright dangerous.

Here’s what you need to know.

In a recent study, published in JAMA Otolaryngology, a panel of 31 hearing experts from more than a dozen countries suggested cochlear implants should be offered to adults who have moderate to severe or worse hearing loss

(Cochlear implants are suggested to children all the time, but not in older folks.)

Unlike hearing aids (which only amplify sound), cochlear implants help people hear by directly stimulating the auditory nerve.

An estimated 50 million people are living with hearing loss severe enough to negatively affect quality of life.

Now, in the grand scheme of things, hearing loss doesn’t seem like a big deal. But it has been associated with social isolation, depressiondementia, and a shorter lifespan

I certainly believe that your hearing is important enough to consider getting a cochlear implant if you find your hearing is faltering

But it is also important to know that hearing is a brain functionBrain tissue allows you to hear.

There are many theories about why we age and what damages our brains as we get older, but it is pretty clear oxidative damage is one of the key factors to brain destruction.

That means you need to protect your brain (and your ears) from damage by making sure you have enough good antioxidants — which reduce oxidative damage! (There are also many foods which STRENGTHEN your hearing. Read about how you can get super hearing here.)

The antioxidant supplements I see working the best are glutathione, quercetin, curcumin, resveratrol, and astaxanthin, just to name a few.

You can protect your brain (and your hearing) by making sure you have good antioxidant protection for your whole body.

P.S. Your diet could very well be the difference between you asking your loved one to constantly repeat themselves, and being able to eavesdrop on the folks sitting three tables away. Find out how you can use your diet to get super hearing, here.
