SLASH Your Risk of Early Death 51 Percent! (Irish Secret)
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Whether you lift a pint or simply wear green, today’s the day that everyone gets to be Irish.
But I bet there’s one way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day that you didn’t know about.
It’s not a pub crawl with the youngsters, and it doesn’t involve chugging dyed green beer.
It’s something the Irish have done for centuries, and it can cut your risk of early death by a whopping 51 percent!
I’ve seen LOTS of patients over the years who were confused about how much exercise they really need or what kind of exercise is the best.
But it really doesn’t have to be anything rigorous… walking is the best thing you can do!
And though you may not be walking the hills and dells of Ireland with a shillelagh stick, you can still get the benefits of this tradition.
As it turns out, nothing is better to combat aging—one study found that walking 8,000 steps a day can lower your risk of dying early by 51 percent!
You know I’m not a big fan of sticking to hard and fast rules like counting steps, but it’s hard to argue with those results!
Even better, your risk for type 2 diabetes drops like a rock. In fact, one analysis of studies found that those who walk just 20 minutes a day have a 30 percent lower chance of diabetes!
And another study found that walking can decrease your risk of heart disease by almost 20 percent.
As a bonus, you’ll be improving your balance and coordination by strengthening your joints, muscles, and bones.
And all it takes is just a few minutes each day.
Start by incorporating 10 to 15 minutes of walking daily. And if it’s still cold and blustery, simply do a few laps around the house! You don’t have to be outdoors in a challenging environment to get the benefits of walking.
P.S. Here’s another easy way to live longer and cut your risk of a second heart attack by almost 40 percent! Read all about it right here.
