Strange “Oilseed” FIGHTS Parkinson’s Disease (Wow!)
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
I don’t know about you, but I love that show American Pickers.
Two men travel around the country searching through what appears to be piles of junk… and every time, they manage to unearth a priceless find.
But they’re not the only ones who can sift through the trash for the treasure.
A group of scientists has recently discovered that a discarded material can undo the damage of Parkinson’s disease.
It’s called “oilseed”… and it could be just the ticket to FIGHT BACK against this disease.
Few stop to think about the humble sesame seed, but its shell contains a valuable compound that could defeat Parkinson’s disease.
Normally the empty shells are thrown away or composted after extracting the oil, but now there’s a reason to hang on to them.
Sesaminol is a molecule found in abundance in the empty shells of sesame seeds, and it contains powerful antioxidants that could repair brain health.
Parkinson’s disease happens because certain neurons are harmed or destroyed by oxidative stress.
These neurons are located in the substantia nigra, the part of the brain stem that produces dopamine and helps control movement, which is why folks with Parkinson’s often experience tremors.
But researchers from Osaka City University discovered that sesaminol helps restore those vital dopamine levels, decreasing symptoms.
For the study, researchers fed mice a diet containing sesaminol for 36 days.
The researchers found that the mice had better bowel control and motor skills… but they also found something else.
They discovered that the mice had increased dopamine levels due to sesaminol’s antioxidant production.
You see, a big cause of any disease is oxidative stress. So if you attack disease with antioxidants, you can get it under control or even eliminate it completely.
And while this is an early study, it gives us a glimmer of hope.
So stock up on the sesame oil and the sesame seeds as well.
But don’t forget— sesaminol isn’t the only antioxidant in town. Take care of your whole brain by doing the following.
Dr. Scott’s Brain Protection Plan:
- Creatine is an amino acid that is good for the brain and helps support energy production.
- Omega-3 fish oil is an essential fatty acid your brain needs to support its function and protect against oxidation.
- Antioxidants can be vitamins such as Vitamin A and Vitamin C, but I especially like the phytonutrients (polyphenols, carotenes…) found in superfood supplement combinations.
P.S. Restoring your dopamine levels is just one part of the Parkinson’s puzzle. Here’s the next piece you need to know about to start your recovery. Click here to find out more.
