[COVID-19] THOUSANDS Undiagnosed!?
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
I think we’re all ready to move on from COVID-19.
Things have gotten safer, it’s ok to see family and friends again, and the warm weather and sunlight has everyone feeling more cheerful.
But while we may be done with COVID… COVID isn’t through with us.
You see, if you thought you’ve made it through the pandemic unscathed, you could be totally wrong.
Researchers have discovered that hundreds of thousands of Americans may have already had COVID without even knowing it.
Here’s how to check if you’re one of them.
*****
With COVID-19 deaths well past 500,000 in the United States, that means MANY more people had the disease – without even knowing it.
And they could be suffering the exact same symptoms that “long COVID” or, as Dr. Fauci calls it, “post-acute COVID-19 syndrome” patients are experiencing.
The symptoms that show up can be similar to many other illnesses, so it’s hard to know whether or not you should get tested.
And on top of that, testing isn’t always helpful.
In fact, they’re finding that the antibody test is only good two or three months after the infection – so how can you tell if you had it months ago?
There are some really strong hints that you can get from your symptoms.
- You have extreme fatigue. The post-COVID syndrome is very similar to chronic fatigue syndrome where people just never get back to normal energy or feeling healthy. People especially feel very tired after exercising.
- Muscle aches. Once again, much like chronic fatigue: people describe this kind of pain similar to the kind of pain you get when you do some form of exercise you’re not used to (say, ice skating or playing basketball when you haven’t played in years). Your muscles are just sore.
- Temperature dysregulation. This is where you bounce from hot to cold all day long.
- Brain fog. People who’ve had COVID-19 find it very difficult to concentrate and to focus.
- Poor sleep. Both trouble falling asleep and trouble staying asleep are symptoms.
Those are the main signs of a COVID-19 infection, but there are a few more of the common symptoms, ranging from severe to mild.
- Passing out
- Anemia
- Personality change
- Low blood pressure
- Rashes on feet and hands
- Eye infection
- Arrhythmia
- Phantom smells
- Shortness of breath
- Loss of taste
- Dizziness
Ultimately, it’s hard to be certain if you have COVID-19. After all, a lot of these symptoms could be a sign of something else.
But if you’ve had more than a few of these symptoms, you’ve likely had the disease.
Talk with your doctor about your symptoms. Then he can run some tests to figure out if you’ve had COVID-19 (if it was recently), or if it is a different disease or illness.
