“MYBA Prescription” Could SAVE Your Life!

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

My patient Mary had an assortment of health concerns that brought her in to see me.

She was worried about her high blood pressure… cholesterol… and blood sugar. Plus, she was nervous and wasn’t sleeping well.

I told Mary I had just the prescription she needed. I wrote down MYBA and handed it back to her.

Mary looked at the prescription pad and asked what it meant.

MYBA was something I’d been prescribing for 20 years… and now there’s even more research to back it up.

A new study shows that this “MYBA prescription” could SAVE your life!

****

The answer is exercise… or as I like to say, Move Your Buns Around!

A new report from the American Heart Association (AHA) uncovered that being “prescribed” to sit less—for even just 5 to 10 minutes a day—could mean the difference between life and death.

The researchers found physical activity can lower both your top and bottom blood pressure numbers by three to four points.

It can also reduce LDL cholesterol levels (the “bad” cholesterol) by three to six points.

Overall, the report found increasing physical activity lowers the risk of heart disease by an amazing 21 percent.

And when compared to people who aren’t physically active, exercisers have a 36 percent lower risk of dying from heart disease.

But the most important part is this: some movement is better than no movement at all.

A lot of mainstream doctors make it seem like if you’re not lifting weights every day or rock-climbing on the weekends, you’re not exercising enough.

That’s pure baloney!

All it takes is just a few simple changes to your daily routine, and you’ll be getting in exercise before you know it.

Here’s how to get started.

  • Stand up. I suggest standing for up to four hours a day. That means getting up out of your chair and doing something: wash the dishes, vacuum, go for a walk, or just stand while you watch your favorite show.
  • Walk it out. Instead of driving, walk to mail a letter or return some library books. Or if you’re going shopping, park further away from the store.
  • Take the long way. Walk the farthest way to get to where you are going. Do you have to go to the bathroom? Try walking into the basement, then upstairs, then around the outside of the house before you get to your destination. Do the same for getting snacks and other activities.

Take this newsletter as your own personal MYBA prescription and start moving around more.

Adding just a few minutes every day could mean the difference between life and death.
