Sedentary Habit INCREASES Blood Clot Risk 35%
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
There’s something most people don’t realize about exercise.
A lot of people think they can go for a walk, jump in the pool, or go to an aerobics class and then sit around for the rest of the day.
Even people who are training for long races will run 12 miles and then sit around for the remainder of the day, thinking they’ve exercised enough to allow them to do nothing.
This “one and done” idea is very common… but can be very hurtful to your health.
That‘s because all that sitting around can lead to some poor—and even deadly— health outcomes.
In fact, this sedentary habit in particular could lead to a 35 percent increased chance of blood clots.
Here’s everything you need to know.
Watching television is both a blessing and a curse (especially now with so many great shows to watch).
But that’s exactly what makes it so harmful – before you know it, you’re hypnotized and HOURS have gone by since you’ve moved.
Now, a new study from the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology shows us why this is so harmful.
Researchers discovered that watching more than four hours of television a day was associated with a 35 percent increase in blood clots, especially in the legs, compared to folks who only watched television for 2.5 hours or less.
It gets worse…
They found these results even in active people who frequently went to the gym or for a walk. Even after the researchers accounted for things like body mass index (BMI), age, and gender, the conclusion remained the same.
How do you keep this from happening to you?
Get up and move around… often!
This means getting up and doing something every half an hour or so. It doesn’t have to be anything special— you can just go to the bathroom.
If you’re feeling adventurous, clean the kitchen, vacuum something, fold laundry, or even brush your teeth, or go outside for a few minutes… anything that gets you moving around a bit.
Try to think of exercise as something you do all day long, and you’ll have no problems with blood clots.
P.S. Worried about your blood pressure? Try these tips to take care of it naturally.
