Deadly Disease 8 TIMES More Likely for Crohn’s Patients

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

Inflammation is supposed to be a normal response for your body. It’s one of the key defenses protecting you.

Inflammation can sometimes be our friend… when it helps fight off infections and clears away debris, that is.

The problems start when inflammation blazes out of control or lasts longer than it should. And if that runaway inflammation is in your gut, you could end up with chronic inflammatory bowel disorder, like Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.

The pain, the cramping, the rush to get to the toilet… ALL of that misery can be blamed on inflammation.

And now, there’s something else to worry about.

Crohn’s disease patients are 8x more likely to be attacked by this second disease… and ulcerative colitis patients are twice as likely.

I’m talking about cancer.

It’s been known for a long time that chronic inflammation can lead to cancers of all types, but connecting inflammatory bowel disorder with a higher risk of cancer has been difficult.

Now, a group of scientists publishing their work in the journal Annals of Oncology have discovered that Crohn’s disease patients could have an eight times higher chance of cancerous tumors.

And ulcerative colitis patients are two times as likely to develop cancer in the future.

Doubling your risk of cancer is bad enough, but an eight-fold increase is downright frightening.

The good news is, the best way to reduce your risk of future cancers can also soothe your daily symptoms.

It starts with decreasing inflammation.

You drop inflammation by first avoiding things that trigger inflammation:

  • Food allergies. The most common reason for IBD symptoms is eating something that your body thinks is a foreign invader. Uncovering your food allergies isn’t easy, but it’s worth it in the long run. Blood tests are a great place to start. The most common food allergies are: eggs, wheat, diary corn, nuts, shellfish, and soy. You can try an elimination diet with these for a while and see if your symptoms improve.
  • Food additives. There are many food additives (including colors, flavors, preservatives) that can irritate your gut. And stay away from processed foods as much as possible.
  • Vegetable oils. Avoiding processed foods can also help you avoid these vegetable oils like safflower, corn, canola, sunflower, which are all horrible for you because they dramatically increase inflammation throughout your body. Try using just olive or avocado oil.

P.S. Crohn’s disease can also put you right in the path for a severe vitamin deficiency. Find out more right here.
