Is This Mainstream Drug KILLING Your Memory!?

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

I don’t have to tell you how important your memory is as you age… and how susceptible it can be to damage.

Whether it’s your genetics, lack of nutrients, or just pollution, it’s easy to feel helpless when protecting your fragile brain.

One of the keys to success, however, is to know your enemy.

And now researchers may have pinpointed a BIG one.

A new study has found that this mainstream drug could be KILLING your memory.

It’s downright shocking.

Has your doctor ever given you a benzodiazepine for anxiety or sleep?

If you are on alprazolam (Xanax), clonazepam (Klonopin), diazepam (Valium) to calm down your pain, then you are not alone.

Sadly, someone close to me was given Xanax after their spouse died, and they’ve been unable to get off of the drug since.

Benzodiazepines are very addictive, but that’s not the only problem with them: they’re terrible for your brain.

A new study published in the journal Nature Neuroscience found that taking diazepam for several weeks led to cognitive impairments.

In fact, the drug led to loss of brain cell connectivity called synaptic loss. Researchers found that benzodiazepines bind to immune microglia cells in the brain which activate them, causing the destruction of connections.

While this study was done in mice, the researchers speculated the effects would be worse on seniors.

It’s important to add here that getting off benzodiazepines is very difficult and should only be done under the care of a doctor.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for ways to reduce anxiety and sleep better, I have you covered.

Dr. Scott’s Anxiety and Sleep Program

  • Sleep. Anxiety and sleep go hand in hand—if you’re anxious you can’t sleep, but loss of sleep makes you anxious. It makes getting enough sleep a tough battle. Natural supplements like L-theanine, melatonin, and chamomile can be very effective to break the cycle.
  • Calming herbs. Speaking of sleep, I’ve given herbs usually used for sleep to people who have anxiety and found they work pretty well. Try taking a half-dose of a natural sleeping formula in the morning and see how it works. (Make sure to do so under the guidance of your physician.)
  • Exercise. Anxiety and exercise are also closely related: exercise reduces anxiety. Find something that works for you which you enjoy. The more you can make exercise fun, the better.

P.S. Benzodiazepines are just one drug that could be ruining your health. Click here to find more.
