5 Signs of DANGEROUSLY High Blood Sugar

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

High blood sugar has long been known as a silent disease.

In fact, scientists estimate that around 25 percent of the people with diabetes have no idea they even have it!

This is understandable: if you ask anyone what their blood sugar is, chances are they have no clue.

But that doesn’t mean there are no symptoms.

In fact, there are 5 symptoms that reveal DANGEROUSLY high blood sugar.

And they’re not what you might think.

You probably already know that drinking a lot of water could be an early sign of diabetes.

But, as usual, there’s much more to the story.

Let’s take a look at the five most common symptoms of diabetes and see why drinking lots of water plays such an important role.

  • Increased appetite. People with diabetes tend to be hungry all the time, but it’s not because they don’t have any sugar in their bloodstream. The problem is, sugar isn’t getting inside of cells. The reason for this has to do with low insulin, the hormone that moves sugar from the blood stream into the cells, OR insulin insensitivity, which is when your cells ignore the already-present insulin. Both of these leave people craving more and more food.
  • Unexplained weight loss. When your cells aren’t getting the fuel they need, you can lose weight. This can be confusing because a lot of people store the sugar that never made it into the cells as fat – so the opposite (weight gain) can happen as well.
  • Fatigue. People who have high blood sugar tend to be tired all the time. This, once again, is due to cells not getting the fuel they need to function.

If you look at the symptoms above, you’ll see how non-specific they are. After all, there are many diseases that can cause these symptoms, from cancer to depression (especially in seniors).

That’s why it’s crucial to look for these other two symptoms that are very specific to diabetes:

  • Increased thirst. You see, there are receptors in your body which are very attuned to the amount of sugar floating in your bloodstream. If sugar levels get too high, then the receptors tell the kidneys to dump sugar. There’s only one problem with that: in order to dump sugar out of your body, your kidneys need to use a lot of water. Your increased thirst when your blood sugar is high is the result of losing a lot of water to get rid of sugar.
  • Increased urination. Increased thirst and increased urination go hand in hand. If you’re drinking more water, then you’re going to go to the bathroom more.

Drinking and going to the bathroom more often are the most common sign of poor blood sugar control, but it can sneak up on you where you don’t notice. Usually, someone in the family will notice something is wrong.

If you at all suspect poor blood sugar control, get a test to see how your blood sugar levels are doing – it’s quick and easy to do.

P.S. If you want to make sure you keep your diabetes risk low, you have to try this.
