IBD Trigger Dumped into Food?! [Disturbing]

Dear Living Well Daily Reader,

Cases of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) have increased over the last 50 years. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are the most common.

While scientists are still scratching their heads about why IBD develops, a few things are certain:

  • IBD is the result of chronic inflammation of the digestive tract.
  • The inflammation is so bad in some cases that ulcers and serious tissue damage develop.

But the CAUSE of the inflammation remains elusive.

Until now, that is. Because new research has uncovered a secret trigger that you may be exposed to DAILY.

With IBD, it’s easy to pinpoint food as the culprit. After all, certain foods definitely cause problems for some folks who battle these gut diseases.

So naturally, a focus is put on diet. But for some reason, the chemicals we’re regularly exposed to are seldom scrutinized in the same way. And that’s a mistake.

Plenty of creepy chemicals we regularly encounter can disrupt our gut balance, including pesticides, fungicides, and pollution. All can hitch a ride inside our bodies through the foods we eat, the air we breathe, and the products we use.

For example, I recently shared the shocking truth about dishwasher soaps. Many contain chemicals that disrupt the functioning of your microbiome (the gut bugs that are vital for your continued good health).

And then there’s the fact that when people switch from a traditional diet to a Western one, IBD cases skyrocket. Talk about a red flag.

So looking at the chemicals we come into contact with through diet, and our environment, as potential causes for IBD simply makes sense.

But today, I want to talk about the chemicals they’re DELIBERATELY dumping into our foods that can cause chaos in our digestive tracts. And those, of course, are additives, preservatives, and food dyes.

It’s the last one on the list that came under scrutiny recently in a disturbing study published in the journal Nature Communications.

Researchers found that the food coloring called Allura Red (also known as FD&C Red 40 and Food Red 17) harms the gut.

The study revealed that Allura Red…

  • disrupts digestive barrier function
  • and alters gut microbiome health

Both issues can lead to common IBD symptoms, including inflammation, tissue destruction, and ulcers.

Allura Red is used in many candies, dairy products, soft drinks, and cereals.

You can check labels for Allura Red (don’t forget to look for all three names when you do). But if you really want to start getting ahead of your IBD symptoms, one of the best moves you can make is to avoid ALL processed foods.

It’s not an instant cure-all. But it’s an excellent first step. And it could reduce or even eliminate your symptoms and put you on the path to healing.

Plus, make sure you’re getting enough good gut bacteria. You can start by eating more probiotic-rich foods like yogurt, sauerkraut, and kimchi. Then try a probiotic supplement from a manufacturer you trust.

P.S. As if messing with your gut bugs weren’t bad enough, other research finds that certain chemicals could ALSO increase cases of high blood pressure. HERE’S what you need to know.
