Dementia risk drops dramatically with THIS move [STUDY]
It’s so subtle, you hardly notice at first. Perhaps you forget an appointment here or there. Maybe you misplace your keys or blank on a neighbor’s name.
But then you forget something more significant. Like how to get home from a store or to pay the mortgage. And then it starts to hit home…
Your memory isn’t what it used to be.
Few things are as frightening as the thought of developing dementia.
But new research reveals a way you can dial down that fear. It’s a simple, NATURAL hack that dramatically cuts your risk.
Researchers from the University of California San Diego say they uncovered a way to significantly slash your risk for cognitive decline and dementia as you age.
It turns out that, to keep your BRAIN firing on all cylinders, you need to focus on your FEET.
The new study published in the Journal of the Alzheimer’s Association found that adding 31 more minutes of exercise daily, or 1,865 more steps a day, dramatically cut the risk of dementia.
What do you get for your extra exercise?
- Just 31 extra minutes of daily exercise is linked to a 21 percent drop in the risk of developing mild cognitive impairment or dementia.
- Taking 1,865 more steps is linked to a 33 percent decline in the risk of developing mild cognitive impairment or dementia.
There’s not a drug on the market that comes anywhere near those numbers. And all it takes is a little more exercise.
Don’t worry if you’re not a big fan of working out. You don’t have to be. Most of the extra “exercise” the participants in the study did was considered “light physical activities.”
That means things like housework, gardening, and walking all count toward your goals. The idea is to keep your seat out of the SEAT and stay moving.
Study volunteers were fitted with activity trackers to see how much they moved throughout the day. The participants were all women in this case, but there’s every reason to believe men should have similar results.
The trackers showed participants were averaging around 3,216 steps a day.
Their daily activities broke down into around four and a half hours of light physical activity and 45 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (such as brisk walking). And they sat for about 10.5 hours every day.
To get started on your own dementia-fighting plan, consider purchasing an affordable activity tracker to count your daily steps. Once you know how much you move during the day you can increase your activity level.
A brisk daily walk to get your blood pumping is a great choice that most folks can manage regardless of their current fitness level.
But don’t stop there. Add in some extra brain support:
- Fill your plate with lots of vegetables and healthy proteins.
- Cut processed foods and foods with too much sugar and vegetable oil from your diet. These junk foods increase inflammation which is damaging to your brain.
- Keep your blood sugar under control. Blood sugar and brain health are closely linked. The supplements chromium and berberine can help.
- Increase the omega-3 fatty acids in your diet by eating more fish and taking a fish-oil supplement. Not only does your brain need these fats to function they also tamp down runaway inflammation.
Take steps to preserve your precious memory starting TODAY.
