Older Americans Battling THIS Disturbing Condition?
New data extracted from the National Poll on Healthy Aging uncovered something startling.
The researchers found that 13 percent of older Americans (ages 50 to 80) suffer from a diet-related condition we never expected to see.
And it could be putting them at risk for obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and more…
According to researchers, thirteen percent of older Americans show signs of food addiction.
Now you’re likely wondering what that actually means. After all, we need food and drink to survive and thrive. So what does a food ADDICTION look like?
Well, to start with, older adults who were addicted to highly processed foods said that they had strong cravings.
In fact, 24 percent of folks said that at least once a week, they couldn’t think of ANYTHING else to do but eat highly processed food.
And 19 percent said that they’d TRIED to cut back on (or stop eating) these kinds of foods at least two or three times a week but failed.
Wondering if YOU’RE addicted too? Does any of this sound familiar?
- Do you have a food that you MUST eat every day?
- Would you make a special trip to the store JUST to get that food (or beverage)?
- Do you spend a lot of time thinking about a particular food or beverage?
- Have you tried to quit a certain food but couldn’t?
From my experience, almost everyone has had these kinds of cravings at some point. And addiction IS an accurate description.
When scientists scan the brains of people who are addicted to food, they look EXACTLY like the brains of people addicted to drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol.
You see, our bodies are basically hardwired to want fat and sugar. Because from a biological point of view, that drive helps us get the nutrients we need when food is scarce.
Junk food companies are perfectly aware of this. So they literally design their products to push those biological buttons and make us crave them even more.
Breaking an addiction is hard work. But it CAN be done. Be sure to check your later this week for some tips on kicking your food addiction.
P.S. We ALL cheat on our diet from time to time. But overindulging in processed foods can do serious damage to your health. Doing THIS can shield your body from some of the worst damage these convenience foods can cause. CLICK for the rest of the story.
