EAR Test Protects Your BRAIN?

Hearing loss has a habit of sneaking up on folks.

Typically, it happens so slowly that you don’t notice it until you’ve lost a SIGNIFICANT amount of hearing.

According to the National Institutes of Health, about 8 percent of adults 55 to 64 have disabling hearing loss. That number jumps to 25 percent for people 65 to 74. And it soars to a staggering 50 percent for those 75 and older.

If you spent a lot of time around loud noises, such as at concerts, in factories, or at gun ranges, you’re almost guaranteed to have hearing loss.

Even common tools like lawnmowers, saws, jackhammers, snow blowers, and other noisy machines can damage hearing.

But as disruptive as hearing loss is to daily life, that’s not even the worst thing about it! It’s the effect it can have on another nearby organ…

Fading hearing can DRAMATICALLY affect your brain.

In fact, a new study published in the journal Lancet Public Health has revealed that folks battling hearing loss face a stunning 42 percent increase in dementia risk.

Now, there are various theories about WHY this is the case.

One is that your brain is forced to work harder as it strains to fill in the gaps in hearing. And this extra effort can cause other memory and thinking processes to falter.

Another is that the lack of clear audible input causes the brain to shrink faster.

Regardless of the cause, the outcome could be devastating. So, don’t count on your spouse or friend to spot your hearing loss for you before it’s too late.

Instead, make an appointment to get your hearing tested. And go ahead and get hearing aids if needed. When you do, you could end up saving your hearing AND your mind.

In the meantime, or when you get the all-clear from that test, you can take steps to REDUCE your dementia risk by caring for your ears with some natural nutrients, including the following:

  • Vitamins C and E: These potent antioxidants protect fragile ears by reducing the risk of free radicals that damage crucial hearing-linked structures and the nerves that connect the ears to the brain.
  • B vitamins: The entire family of B vitamins is essential for ear function and nerve conduction.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids: DHA and EPA, omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil, are essential for brain and nerve function.
  • Phytonutrients: Fruits and vegetables are rich sources of these powerful, ear-friendly antioxidant compounds, including essential vitamins and flavonoids. Berries are an excellent option.

It’s time to start taking hearing loss seriously. Ignoring your risk can leave you living in silence as it chips away at your memories.
