Full-Fat Dairy Gets the ALL-CLEAR
I thought the “low fat” myth would have died a LONG-DESERVED death by now.
But unfortunately, it has some serious staying power.
Foods with labels that scream “Low Fat” or “No Fat” still sell like hot cakes to folks who want to be healthy.
Too bad it’s all built on a mountain of mistakes (and maybe a few lies, too)…
America’s obsession with fat being “unhealthy,” driving up cholesterol, and raising your risk of heart disease was originally the brainchild of a scientist named Ancel Keys.
Unfortunately, Keys was far better at getting politicians to do what he wanted than he was being a scientist…
His misguided cholesterol theory proposes that the less fat you eat the less likely you are to develop heart disease.
And, of course, full-fat dairy foods got caught up in the lie.
This idea was quickly embraced by government health agencies and conventional medicine. And it’s still alive and flourishing today despite being proven FALSE long ago.
Now, a study published in the European Society of Cardiology’s journal has added even more evidence to the “fat is fine” pile. The new research finds full-fat dairy foods aren’t harmful.
In fact, they can be a part of a heart HEALTHY diet!
The study gathered data from 80 countries. They found that diets rich in fruits, vegetables, full-fat dairy, nuts, legumes, and fish are associated with a reduced risk of heart disease.
Meats and grains got the all clear too. Adding or subtracting them did nothing to change the results.
I’m not surprised. As I’ve explained before, sugar and vegetable oils are the true drivers of heart disease.
The message from the new study is clear. We should focus a lot more on what we should ADD to our diet and a little less on not what we should REMOVE.
The researchers propose eating MORE of the following five foods.
- Vegetables: Veggies are packed full of healthy plant nutrients including polyphenols and bioflavonoids with natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
- Full-fat dairy: Dairy foods that still have all the fat nature intended are a great source of the fats and proteins that keep your blood sugar well regulated.
- Nuts: Nuts are an excellent source of healthy fats and proteins that make you feel full and satisfied so you aren’t tempted to eat other unhealthy snacks.
- Legumes: Legumes, including lentils, peas, beans, and peanuts are a good source of fiber and other healthy nutrients.
- Fish: Fish is the only good source of essential fatty acids in our diets which most of us don’t get enough of.
It’s time to stop turning perfectly healthy foods into “forbidden fruit.” A well-balanced, HEALTHY diet can include fatty foods such as delicious full-fat dairy and tasty meats
And another thing…
