Olive Extract Boosts Weight Loss and Blood Sugar Control
On this Labor Day, we’d like to take a moment to honor the hard work and dedication of all workers who contribute to our nation’s strength and prosperity.
Forget fad diets and grueling workouts.
New research suggests a humble compound found in olives might be the weight loss and blood sugar breakthrough we’ve all been waiting for.
In fact, researchers say this olive extract could be a game-changer in the fight against obesity and diabetes.
Let’s dive into this tasty discovery…
Scientists presenting at Nutrition 2024 (the American Society for Nutrition’s annual meeting) revealed that the olive-extract elenolic acid has some hidden talents.
The compound, found in mature olives and extra virgin olive oil, is remarkably effective at reducing blood sugar levels and promoting weight loss in mouse experiments.
After just one week, obese diabetic mice given oral elenolic acid had significant improvements. They weighed less and had better blood sugar regulation than in their pre-treatment state. And both were also better than in the control mice.
To uncover why the olive extract works so well, the researchers searched for natural compounds that act on gut cells called “L-cells.”
L-cells produce two crucial metabolic hormones: GLP-1 and PYY. When released during a meal, these hormones team up to promote feelings of fullness, prevent overeating, and help control blood sugar levels.
The scientists confirmed that elenolic acid triggers the release of these beneficial hormones, which naturally combat obesity and blood sugar issues.
Now, before you start chugging olive oil, remember that this study was conducted on mice. We still need human trials to confirm how these benefits translate to people.
However, the results are promising, but either way olives are packed with good-for-you vitamins and antioxidants.
Plus, it’s worth noting that the Mediterranean diet, rich in olives and olive oil, is associated with good health, including weight management and improved blood sugar control.
This new research offers an intriguing glimpse into at least one of the reasons why that might be the case.
So, while we wait for more research, consider incorporating more olives and extra virgin olive oil into your diet.
P.S. A recent study confirmed that adding olive oil to your diet could lower your risk of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. CLICK HERE for all the details.
