Coffee Compound LOWERS Cholesterol
Dear Living Well Daily Reader,
I’m on a personal mission to rescue coffee from the hands of the nutritional puritans who think that anything fun is not good for you.
Despite what the mainstream would have you believe, the news on coffee has improved in recent years.
Researchers have pinpointed many powerful plant nutrients, like polyphenols, anthocyanins, carotenes and others, that have AMAZING health benefits.
And now, they’ve homed in on one ingredient in coffee that has a pretty astounding benefit.
A new study has discovered that this marvelous compound could actually LOWER cholesterol.
One plant nutrient has been excluded from the health benefits discussion: caffeine.
But now, one study shows that caffeine does a lot more than just wake you up.
The researchers found that just two to three average-sized cups of coffee per day contains enough caffeine to REDUCE your levels of LDL (“bad”) cholesterol.
Long-time readers know that I think cholesterol levels (and especially cholesterol drugs) are a scam. But improving LDL levels is a sign of reduced inflammation – which everyone could use.
The researchers found that caffeine can lower the levels of a long-winded molecule called sterol regulatory element-binding protein 2 (or simply: SREBP2). This then reduces another long-winded molecule called proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 serine protease (or PCSK9), both of which have been shown to lower cholesterol levels.
The takeaway is, both of those long-winded molecules reduce the risk of heart disease. High levels of SREBP2 have been linked to diabetes, fatty liver disease, and heart health in general.
So, raise your cup of coffee high, knowing that there are many beneficial molecules in your morning drink, including caffeine!
P.S. Believe it or not, coffee could also conquer diabetes. Click here for everything you need to know.
