Common Meds Send SUDDEN Heart Attack Risk Soaring

Let’s face it. When managing a chronic disease like diabetes, you’re likely at your doctor’s office FAR more often than you’d like.

But when you go, you expect to at least walk out of there with something that will SUPPORT or IMPROVE your health.

And that is typically the case. But startling new research reveals that the prescription your doctor hands you all too often could cause more harm than good.

In fact, it could send your risk of a SUDDEN heart attack SOARING!

If you have diabetes, you’re already at an increased risk for cardiac arrest. In fact, you’re twice as likely to have a heart attack as other folks.

But now, a new study presented at the Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Hamburg uncovered several factors behind an elevated risk for SUDDEN cardiac arrest in folks with type 2 diabetes with NO prior history of cardiovascular disease.

When the research team crunched the numbers, several things stood out.

First, those with LOW fasting blood sugars had a 150 percent increased risk of heart attack.

And in people with very high blood pressure (over 180 mm/Hg), there was a 121 percent increased risk of heart attack.

But one of the MOST disturbing links was to meds that millions of folks with diabetes take every year.

They included…

  • antibiotics
  • antipsychotics
  • prokinetics (for vomiting and other stomach issues)
  • blood-sugar-lowering meds (due to low fasting blood sugar)

Those drugs may seem entirely unrelated. But it turns out they all have one thing in common.

They prolong something called the QT interval—a change in how the heart’s electrical system works.

While the science behind the QT interval is complicated, the bottom line is simple. A prolonged QT interval increases the risk of a heart attack.

If you aren’t diabetic, you should take steps to make sure you never develop the disease. (More on that in a moment.)

And if you’re already diagnosed with diabetes, your best bet to reduce your heart attack risk is to reign in your blood sugar and try to put your diabetes into remission.

Whether you’re diabetic or not, these steps can help you keep your blood sugar in a healthy range.

  • Diet Do-Over: Avoid processed foods, eat plenty of healthy proteins, and munch on as many veggies as possible. Steer clear of added sugars, excess grains, and too many starchy vegetables. And if you’re going to occasionally indulge in something with sugar, be sure to combine it with a meal to slow down the absorption of the sugar.
  • REGULARLY Exercise: It’s VITAL to keep moving. But exercise doesn’t mean you have to commit to running marathons or spending hours at the gym. Walking, golfing, swimming, or a game of tennis can all help your body deal with sugar more effectively. Plus, simply moving more throughout the day, like walking to do your chores or taking the stairs, counts too.
  • Ease Inflammation: Buy some cheap health insurance by taking supplements that naturally keep your inflammation in check. I like fish oil, curcumin, and Boswellia.
  • Support Better Blood Sugar: The herbal extract berberine and the mineral chromium are great for natural blood sugar control whether you have diabetes or not.

Don’t get clobbered by an unexpected heart attack. Take steps to manage your blood sugar starting TODAY.

P.S. Twenty-five percent of folks over 65 have diabetes. Over 50 percent are prediabetic. Luckily, one of the BEST ways to dial down your diabetes risk is ALSO the simplest.
