EASY Exercise Trick SLASHES Death Risk

Most folks don’t like to think about exercising.

Even I must push myself out the door to get my daily steps in.

And honestly, who can blame us? After all, all sorts of things get in the way of exercising, including work, family obligations, weather, and even our favorite TV shows.

But what if you only had to think about exercising once a WEEK?

Could exercising just once a week REALLY provide the health and fitness benefits we need?

As unlikely as it sounds, new research suggests the answer is “Yes.”

A study published in JAMA Network Open found that adults 20 and up who walked at least 8,000 steps one or two days a week were 14.9 percent less likely to die over ten years than those who didn’t exercise much.

Now I get it. It might seem impossible to walk 8,000 steps in one session. It IS a lot of steps, especially if you’re not used to walking so much.

But it’s far more manageable if you simply commit to a long walk at a modest pace. If you don’t have a way to count your steps (or care to count them), 8000 steps is around a 60 to 90-minute walk at a steady pace.

If completing all those steps in one outing feels overwhelming, you can break it up into two or three 30-minute sessions instead.

New data shows that the average American only walks 4,800 steps a day, which ISN’T enough to have significant health benefits. But it ALSO means you just have to double your steps for one day a week to reach your goal.

People who walk regularly are more likely to…

  • keep their weight in a healthy range,
  • build stronger bones and muscles,
  • lower their chance of getting diabetes,
  • boost immune function,
  • and reduce high blood pressure and heart disease.

But the benefits don’t end there. Walking has also been linked to making people feel better, be in a better mood, and get better sleep.

This study means none of us have any excuse to miss out on exercising. After all, we only have to gather up enough willpower to get out once a week.

So, go ahead and grab those tennis shoes, find a partner to keep you company, and get walking!

Or, if you prefer, hop on a treadmill and stroll while listening to music or watching your favorite show.
