Fatigue Could Have A SURPRISING Cause (WEIRD!)

When I was younger, I thought we ALL slowed down in our senior years.

I was convinced it was a natural and inevitable part of aging. And that the retirement years were essentially for putting up your feet and relaxing (because it was too exhausting to do much else).

But I now realize that’s no longer the case. (I doubt it ever was.) In fact, NOTHING could be further from the truth.

Their calendars are overflowing between volunteering, socializing, learning, exercising, and traveling. (Sound familiar?)

But for some older folks… perhaps you or someone you care about… something stands in the way of getting it all done. And that’s unexplained FATIGUE.

I’m talking about the kind of tiredness that no amount of coffee or energy drinks seems to fix. And that well-meaning doctor can’t figure out a cause for beyond “aging.”

But there’s one hidden fatigue trigger they’ve ALL likely overlooked.

It turns out HEARING LOSS could be an energy thief.

According to new research published in JAMA Otolaryngology, people with hearing loss are significantly more likely to experience fatigue.

If you’re scratching your head, wondering what the two things have to do with each other, you’re not alone.

The researchers believe it may be caused by cognitive overload.

You see, folks with poor hearing have to work so hard to hear what’s happening around them that it expends a LOT of mental energy. And fatigue inevitably sets in.

Picture being in a crowded restaurant trying to carry on a conversation. It takes a lot of effort to stay focused on what the person you’re talking to is saying.

NOW imagine doing that for every waking moment of your life. It’s easy to see how exhausting that can become.

The next step for researchers is to recruit volunteers with hearing loss who are also battling fatigue and have them wear a hearing aid to see if it reduces their tiredness.

It’s yet another reminder of how critical it is to have your hearing checked.

Regular readers may recall my past warnings about the dangers of ignoring hearing loss. It’s already been linked to cognitive decline.

If you find yourself constantly asking people to repeat themselves or you need to turn up the volume on the TV higher than you used to, those are red flags. Book an appointment to discuss it with your doc.

Correcting a hearing problem won’t just improve your overall quality of life. It could also slash your risk of dementia and erase fatigue… restoring your energy levels so you can return to the active person you want to be.

And another thing…
