Heart-Supporting Nutrient FIGHTS Fatigue

Ever had one of those “DUH!” moments?

You know the kind I’m talking about. The puzzle pieces fall into place and you think, “I should have thought of that before.”

Well, I had one of my own a few weeks ago.

A good friend told me she was feeling so much better after I suggested she take a supplement for a heart condition.

Her heart issues were already showing some improvement. Which was fantastic. These were just the results we were hoping for.

But what she reported next had me smacking my head for not thinking of it sooner. She was experiencing a BIG side benefit of this powerful nutrient.

“I have SO MUCH MORE energy,” Michelle told me. And, of course, she did (DUH).

There’s an excellent reason why.

Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10 is a bioactive molecule in our body that feeds directly into energy production. It’s what had Michelle feeling so much better.

You’ve likely heard of mitochondria before. Many of us were first introduced to them in high school biology class.

Mitochondria are tiny power factories found in all of our cells. They’re responsible for producing adenosine triphosphate (ATP), our body’s energy source.

If you want to make EXTRA ATP to fight off fatigue, you have to feed the cycle that produces that energy. And one source that fuels it is CoQ10.

And, sure enough, a recent meta-analysis published in the journal Pharmacology confirms what my friend Michelle experienced. The researchers demonstrated that CoQ10 supplementation can provide you with an extra burst of energy.

The analysis pooled data from several studies focused on a wide range of people with fatigue. This included folks with chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, end-state heart failure, obesity, breast cancer, poliomyelitis, multiple sclerosis, and even healthy people in need of extra energy.

The researchers found that the longer someone took CoQ10 and the higher the dose, the better the results.

I’ve seen this effect in my own practice. Patients start taking CoQ10 and don’t notice an improvement right away. But those that stick with it begin to feel significantly better after a few weeks to a few months.

I suggested Michelle take CoQ10 because heart cells are jam-packed with mitochondria. In fact, the heart is one of the most energy-hungry organs in our bodies (your brain being another).

Her heart benefitted, for sure. But she also walked away with a surge of fatigue-fighting extra energy.

Many supplements contain around 40-50 milligrams of CoQ10. But if you’re looking to take the nutrient to reduce fatigue I suggest you consider taking over 100 milligrams daily.

Work with your doctor to decide on the best dosage for you.
