This Surprising Vitamin Cuts Colon Cancer Risk IN HALF
When my patient Harold came to see me about colon cancer worries, it wasn’t because he wanted to.
It’s because his wife forced him.
You see, Harold didn’t have cancer yet, but his two brothers died of colon cancer and his wife was (rightfully) concerned.
And when he’d gone to his mainstream doctor, he just shrugged his shoulders and told Harold to eat more fiber and make sure to get an annual colonoscopy.
That’s why he was shocked when I told him how easy preventing colon cancer can be, thanks to this surprising vitamin.
There are very few vitamins I think everyone should take (see why I think calcium SHOULDN’T be one of them right here), but vitamin D is at the top of my list.
Vitamin D has MANY health benefits: it’s great for your bones, it helps keep depression away, and it protects your heart.
And now, new research shows that it could keep colon cancer at bay.
In the study, researchers examined the health records of 95,000 nurses. And over the 24 years of data, women who simply ate foods with more vitamin D had a 50 percent reduction in the risk of colon cancer.
That’s a HUGE reduction!
To make sure you get enough vitamin D (especially in the winter months), first have your levels checked by your doctor. He can help you determine if you need to supplement.
In the meantime, keep an eye out for these possible symptoms of colon cancer.
- Bleeding. Bright red blood comes from hemorrhoids and can be unsettling, but it’s usually not harmful. The blood you should worry about comes from up higher. This blood can be harder to spot, and it usually appears as very dark stools, or has a coffee grounds look.
- Change in bowel habits. Once again, change in stool texture is normal, but if you have weeks of looser stools, or find yourself going to the bathroom more often, then you should consider going to the doctor.
- Fatigue. If you look white or pale, this could be a lack of iron from bleeding.
- Weight loss. If you haven’t been dieting, yet you’ve lost weight, see your doctor immediately.
If any of these signs show up, visit your doctor for a thorough exam.
