Unexpected Danger LURKS in Your Drinking Glass
I’ve said it so often I’m in danger of sounding like a broken record. (For those folks old enough to remember them.)
But this habit is such a threat to your health it’s STILL worth the risk.
One of the WORST things you can swallow is sweetened beverages—made with natural and fake sugars.
They’ve already been repeatedly linked to a stack of health problems. But the latest threat associated with them has managed to even shock ME.
Recent research uncovered a disturbing link between sugar-packed beverages and their diet counterparts and the life-threatening heart condition atrial fibrillation (A-fib).
The study followed 200,000 adults for a decade and found that folks who frequently down artificially sweetened drinks (like those loaded with sucralose or aspartame) have a disturbing 20 percent higher risk of developing A-fib than those who don’t.
But you’re not off the hook if you prefer sugar-sweetened beverages either. People who regularly indulged in sugary drinks had a 10 percent higher risk of A-fib.
And it gets worse. The study also revealed that the risk of A-fib can skyrocket 31 percent when you combine those beverages with smoking.
Those risks are enough to make your heart skip a beat—and NOT in a good way.
Fruit juice fans did get a break with this study. Folks who reported drinking less than one liter of pure fruit juice per week (a little over four cups) had an eight percent lower risk of A-fib.
But let’s be honest, how many juice fans stick to such a modest amount?
Plus, while A-fib might not be connected to modest juice drinking, juice IS packed with sugar and studies link it to weight gain and obesity.
In fact, folks who drink sugar-sweetened beverages are more likely to face a whole host of health issues that go beyond A-fib, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and kidney problems.
And here’s the kicker: obesity and diabetes are also known risk factors for A-fib.
So, the next time you reach for a sugary or diet drink, pause and consider the potential consequences. Is that momentary satisfaction really worth putting your heart at risk?
Your body deserves better than that. It’s time to make a change. Ditch those dangerous drinks and opt for healthier alternatives such as water, tea, and coffee.
Your heart will thank you, and so will your waistline.
And another thing…
